Oppo and Vivo are continuously popularizing their handset with the name of "Selfie" so here Xiaomi decided to launch affordable Smartphone focusing on the selfie. Here we have extracted the advantages and disadvantages of latest "Y Series" phone Xiaomi Redmi Y1. The key features of this handset are 5.5 inches HD display, Android 7.0 (Nougat) OS, Qualcomm MSM8940 Snapdragon 435 processor, 13MP primary | 16MP secondary camera, 32/64 GB Internal | 128 GB SD card support | 3/4 GB RAM and 3080 mAh battery.

Plastic but Compact Build
The exterior is nearly carved in the same way as Redmi 4, but now it is built on the plastic which helps to keep the weight down. The device is fairly light at 153 grams. Xiaomi has used plastic in its rear and sides along with the power and volume buttons. Overall design is looking like faux-metallic build, although it is compact and sturdy. Power button and volume rockers are located on the right while left edge housing the card slot tray. The bottom of the phone has the Micro-USB port and speaker grilles. On the top, you will find an IR emitter and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
5.5 inches FHD Display
The advantage of this phone over Redmi 4 is its display size, Redmi Y1 has 5.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720 x 1280p resolutions and 7.6mm thickness, that sits comfortably in one hand. We are expecting the Full HD, but even after having HD resolutions the display is quite sharp and vibrant for the consumption of content. You will also pleased to see the display of such a budget-friendly smartphone is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass.

Decent performance by Snapdragon 435
Redmi Y1 is powered by the New Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 having eight-cores clocked at the 1.4 GHz, which ensures quick and smooth performance, It is obvious that it can't handle the high-end games with highest graphics setting but in lower graphics setting you will be able to play visually-intensive games too. For a typical user, there is hardly any trouble in operating the phone for day to day tasks. Snapdragon 435 chipset along with 4GB RAM is capable to perform well as expected.

16 MP Selfie Camera
This series is launched by Xiaomi for selfie lovers under the affordable range. The handset is featuring 16MP sensor for the selfie camera incorporated by the LED Selfie-light which lets you capture sharper and vibrant self-portraits. The dark or low light environment now not comes in your way as there is a dedicated LED light for the secondary camera, helping in such situations. Beautify 3.0 helps in enhancing natural beauty while preserving original facial details. The primary 13 MP camera with f/2.2 aperture has nearly same quality as Redmi 4, It takes a decent picture in outdoor daylight condition but struggling in insufficient lighting with observable noise. Considering the price, camera quality of the phone is not going to disappoint you.

This handset is ready for sale along with Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A under the 10K INR Range. "Y Series" is launched to focus on the selfie-obsessed people. So there is 16MP selfie camera along with LED Flash although both cameras are average in performance. Large display size is a plus point compared to Redmi 4.
